World’s Best Business Schools | QS MBA Ranking 2022

What are the world’s best business schools for an MBA? Find out in the 2022 QS MBA Ranking released today

Stanford Graduate School of Business is the world’s best MBA program for the second consecutive year—that’s according to the QS MBA Ranking 2022.

The ranking of global full-time MBA programs by QS Quacquarelli Symonds is dominated by big-name US business schools, with Harvard Business School rising to joint-second with Wharton for 2022.

France’s HEC Paris and the US's MIT Sloan make up the world’s top five best business schools according to QS.

            Top Global MBA programs

After HEC Paris, London Business School, INSEAD, and IE Business School are ranked the best business schools in Europe, placing sixth and joint-seventh respectively.

London Business School is the only UK school to feature in the top 10, and Spain’s IESE Business School is a top 10 newcomer in 2022, rising to 10th from 11th last year.

In the QS MBA ranking top 20, respectable gains have been made by the University of Oxford Saïd Business School, which rose from 16th to joint 13th with Esade Business School in 2022.

However, most business schools have remained in similar positions to the previous year.

Elsewhere, the best MBA program in the Asia-Pacific can be found at Melbourne Business School, ranked 26th.

There are only two other Asia-Pacific full-time MBA programs ranked by QS among the global top 30 and both are Singaporean. The National University of Singapore places 28th followed by Nanyang Technological University in 29th.

QS releases its MBA ranking alongside rankings of business masters programs. HEC Paris tops the 2022 QS rankings of Masters in Management and Masters in Marketing programs, while MIT Sloan tops the Masters in Business Analytics ranking. Oxford Saïd Business School tops the Masters in Finance ranking.

QS vs Financial Times, US News Rankings

You should never take one ranking as fact. Instead, compare MBA rankings and track a business school’s performance over time.

The QS ranking is less well-known in the industry when compared with MBA rankings published by the Financial Times (FT) and US News

However, the QS ranking does include all the elite M7 business schools, like Harvard and Stanford, some of which declined to participate in the FT ranking released in early 2021.

The omission of these top business schools, combined with the varying methodologies of each ranking, mean results vary. If the same schools omitted from the FT ranking declined to participate in the QS ranking, HEC Paris would have topped the list.

INSEAD, which topped the FT ranking, ranks sixth in the QS ranking. Chicago Booth, ranked third by the FT, is ranked 12th in the QS list.

Stanford tops both the QS and US News ranking, which only ranks US schools, demonstrating the quality of the Stanford MBA program. Wharton is ranked second by both US News and QS.

Data for the QS MBA ranking is collected via surveys of employers, academics, and business school staff.

MBA programs are ranked based on five key metrics given different weighting: Employability (40%); Return on Investment (20%); Entrepreneurship and Alumni Outcomes (15%); Thought Leadership (15%); Class & Faculty Diversity (10%).

Employability is the central metric for the QS MBA ranking, meaning the higher a program is ranked the better your post-MBA jobs prospects are, according to QS.

To be included in the QS MBA ranking, business schools must be accredited by either AACSB, AMBA, or EFMD (EQUIS).
